 Claude Monet (1840-1926 French)

As Monet "grew into" Impressionism, he found that his greatest challenge lay in capturing the essence of a fleeting moment; the light and reflections on water, the variations in a sky; and as he became more and more engrossed in this challenge, he started to paint one and the same subject again and again, capturing the difference in atmosphere and lighting in different seasons or at different times of the day.
